7 Tips for Deep Cleaning Your Kitchen

A kitchen is one of the dirtiest places in your house.

Making sure that you stay on top of cleaning a kitchen is one of the best ways to combat those germs and keep everyone in your home safe and healthy. However a quick clean is not going to do the trick. You need to make sure you do a deep cleaning at least twice per year to keep your kitchen in tip-top shape.

Read on to learn more about how to do a proper deep clean.

1. Gather Cleaning Items First

When it comes time to clean, the last thing you want to do is realize that you do not have the right cleaning supplies. That is why it is essential to gather all of the cleaning items first to have them in one place so that when you do start, you know that you have everything you need.

This means that you should have the right brushes, a mop, a vacuum, sprays and scrubs, rags, and anything else that you think you might need.

2. Tidy Up

It’s almost impossible to deep clean your kitchen if you have clutter around your kitchen. So the first thing that you need to do is ensure that you tidy up the area.

If you have mail on the counter, put that away where it goes or throw it out. If you have dirty dishes in the sink, put them in the dishwasher and start it or hand wash them and dry them to put them away. You want to make sure that there is nothing in the way of deep cleaning.

3. Start at the Top

When you start cleaning the kitchen, you want to make sure that you are cleaning areas that you would not normally do if it were not a deep clean. That means you want to wipe down all of the light fixtures and bulbs. If you need to change the bulbs, this is the time to do it.

While you are cleaning the light fixtures, this is a great time to also clean the top of the cabinets since it is hard-to-reach for normal cleaning. You should first vacuum then to get rid of all of the dust and then you can wipe them down. You should also clean the corners of the walls that need the ceilings to get rid of cobwebs and other dust particles.

4. Clean the Cabinets

One by one, you should clean the cabinets. This means that you are only dealing with one cabinet at a time so you remember where everything goes inside of it.

You should first dust it out and then wipe it down with a cleaning product and disinfectant before you put everything back inside. This is also a great time to re-organize if you feel that you want to move things around.

5. Clean All Surfaces

The next thing you want to do is something that you probably also do during regular kitchen cleanings. Do you want to clean the outside of the cabinet doors, scrub the backsplash in the walls, and disinfect all of the knobs, faucets, light switches, and other surfaces above the counter.

Once you do that, you will want to disinfect and wash the counters to make sure they are clean before you buy anything back on them.

6. Scrub the Appliances

Well you may do a quick scrub of appliances during a normal kitchen clean, during a deep clean, you want to go a bit deeper to clean at the highest level that you can.

Starting with the sink, you want to use water and vinegar to clean the drain with a toothbrush. This will ensure that you are getting all the grime and mold off of the area. The small toothbrush helps you get into hard-to-reach places that a regular brush would not allow.

When you are done with the sink, you should pull out the oven and other kitchen appliances to vacuum and dust behind them. You can turn your oven on self-cleaner or try to scrub it all out yourself. You should wash out the microwave as well to get any food stains out of it.

Doing this is not everyone’s favorite, so it may be best to hire a house cleaning service to do it for you.

7. Clean the Floor

To start, you want to vacuum the floor to get rid of any dirt or dust that may have accumulated during the rest of the clean. Once you do that, you can mop the floors to disinfect them. Be sure to also clean behind the appliances and in the hard-to-reach places like under the cabinets during this clean.

Once you mop the floor and it dries, you can put everything back in place, and your kitchen will feel brand new.
